Company History

In 1991 Greg and Donna Wannemacher acquired the company formerly known as Baumgartner Trucking. President Greg Wannemacher immediately emphasized the importance of making customer service a core value of the newly owned company. In 1992, Baumgartner Trucking began contract trucking to points in Ohio, concentrating mainly in the Lima, Ohio area.

In 1996, Baumgartner Trucking was renamed Wannemacher Enterprises and soon after in 1997 the current company headquarters at Hanthorn was completed. The 100,000 square foot building allowed warehousing services to become a new capability to complement the trucking services. Wannemacher Enterprises later reached 500,000 square feet of warehousing space in 1998 as a result of acquiring the Liberty Complex.

1998 proved to be a very important year in Wannemacher’s history. After a corporate decision by Wannemacher’s largest customer to use a different transportation service provider, Wannemacher was forced to sink or swim. Through difficult times, Wannemacher Enterprises held firmly to the core values the company was built on. By building strong relationships through dedicated customer service, Wannemacher not only survived but continued to grow.

In 2002 Wannemacher began providing packaging services to allow another value-added service to customers. Vertical integration of services allowed Wannemacher to transport, warehouse and package customers’ products. As a result, the Hanthorn warehouse was expanded 81,000 square feet in 2003.

From 2005 to 2010, Wannemacher Enterprises gained more growth and recognition. The 50,000 square foot Central Point facility was acquired in 2005. In 2006 the Hanthorn facility was expanded yet again by 70,000 square feet. When one of Wannemacher’s largest customers had product stored at several different locations, the Harding Highway warehouse was built in 2007 to provide 300,000 square feet to bring their product to one location. Following this addition, Wannemacher exceeded 1,000,000 square feet of warehousing space. Also in 2007, Wannemacher Enterprises was awarded by the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce as the “Small Business of the Year”. In 2008 the Truckload Carriers Association presented Wannemacher with the “Best Fleets to Drive For” award.

Wannemacher Enterprises expanded outside of Lima, Ohio late in 2011 when the company purchased the Van Wert, Ohio liquid filling facilities of Golden Heritage Foods, LLC, producers of Busy Bee Honey and several private label honeys. The purchase of the plant’s ultra-modern equipment and capacity allows Wannemacher Total Logistics to add liquid filling to its extensive lineup of contract packaging services while adding to the firm’s more than 1 million square feet of warehousing space as well.
